The peak of German type specimens from the leading type companies (often Gothic but not exclusively so) with borders, initials, examples from many German businesses and title pages, decorative material, machinery-- a perfect source text from the flower of German graphic artists of the art nouveau period: Otto Hupp, Walter Tiemann, Peter Behrens, Rudolf Kuch. The booklets include: Rundgotisch nebst Auszeichnungschriften (Schelter, 1909, 38pps, 2 colour f/o, 4 colour pages; Romanische Schriften (1907, 86pps, 6 colour examples); Rosen u Perlen, heft 31 (1911, 32pps, all in colour green or purple); Salzmannschriften Halbsetter u Schmale, 28 heft, (1909, 44pps, 31pps colour examples); Behrens Antiqua und Schmuck von Prof. Peter Behrens (Klingspor, 1908, 54pps, 36 colour); Schmale Alpha Beta, heft 40 (Flinisch, nd,34pps,2 f/o photos of plant, 12pps colour); Eine Deutsche Schrift von Rudolf Kuch (Klingspor, 1910, 32pps, 21 examples in colour); Ehmcke Antiqua (Flinisch, 1910, 16pps, 11 examples in colour); Salzmann Fraktur 32 heft (Schelter, 1912, 58pps, 38 examples); Halbsette Tiemann Mediaeval (Klingspor, 1912, 22pps, 7 colour, 2 photos); Behrens-Kursin und Schmuck (Klingspor, 1909, 48pps, 20 examples); Eine Medieval von Walter Tiemann (Klingspor, 1909, 32pps, 20 colour); Antiqua u Unziale von Prof. Otto Hupp (Klingspor, 1910, 56pps, 33 examples), Geschutch Erzeugnisse (no covers, Schelter, 1912, 1 page half sliced off, 1 page stained, 32pps, 8 examples). 27.5 cm x 21.5 cm are the measurements for most, 10 of the 14 heavy paper covers are wonderful representations. All the booklets have numerous b/w examples but only the colour examples (not borders) are mentioned. Excellent condition for all of them, a rare collection of the best book arts type design to ever flourish. Some of the publishing dates are approximate. This collection was developed by George T. Eager whose name in ink appears on fep, a writer for Rotarian magazine in the 1930s and an advertising agency executive. This is a very heavy book to ship.

Description:
U.S.A.: ITC, 1975. First Edition. Published to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the American typewriter, with designers Joel Kaden and Tony Stan reinvigorating the font by dispensing with its rigid spacing. "On every standard typewriter, there's a metal bar with a row of teeth spaced exactly one-tenth of an inch apart. In 1874 this famous bar lifted the typewriter from the inventor's bench and placed it in the office where it changed our reading habits, modified our concepts of legibility, and eventually opened the world of business to women." Bound in stapled colour paper wrappers, 340 mm x 153 mm, 27 pages, a near fine copy.

Description:
London: Unit Editions, 2021. 1st ed. Paperback. New/no dj as issued. A long overdue book examining the extraordinary life and work of artist/designer Ed Fella. Ed Fella is revered by many of the leading names in contemporary design. Now, at long last, there is a book that charts Ed's journey from the commercial design studios of 1950s Detroit to his current position as a widely celebrated artist/designer. Ed Fella: A Life in Images makes extensive use of his vast treasure store of visual delight: it showcases flyers, posters, original sketches, drawings, Polaroids and collages, as well as items from Ed's collection of vernacular design. The book makes unrestricted use of Ed's vast archive. David Cabianca, the book's co-author and its instigator, has surveyed the archive in depth. He writes: "Ed Fella's archive is legion. It branches into numerous streams while sustaining a robust trail of examples along the way. Fella's archive exhausts the possibilities one might find in graphic design. Ed Fella… Read More

"From the dust jacket: Paul Rand's stature as one of the world's leading graphic designers is uncontestable. For half a century his pioneering work in the field of advertising design and typography has exerted a profound influence on the design profession; he almost single-handedly transformed "commercial art" from a practice that catered to the lowest common denominator of taste to one that could assert its place among the fine arts. Among the numerous clients for whom he has been a consultant and/or designer are the American Broadcasting Company, IBM Corporation, and Westinghouse Electric Corporation.
In this witty and instructive book, Paul Rand speaks on the process and… Read More
