About This Item

London: Sackfield, 1718. First Edition. Hardcover. [12], 239, [26]pp. Modern full dark brown calf, spine with four raised bands, lettered and decorated in gold. Head-pieces and tail-pieces. A nice copy of a scarce early geographic gazetteer with a decidedly anglo-centric view of the world. The descriptions of most other countries are particularly amusing. A section is dedicated to the United States (which gets the same treatment as the rest of the world) with brief descriptions for Virginia, Maryland, New England, New York, Florida, Carolina. Includes tables with the distances from London to the main English cities, the cities and principal market towns in Great Britain, and the foreign towns. Old, faint dampstain to fore edge affecting three of the leaves, a few occasional small spots and creases. A very good+ copy. ; 16mo.
