About This Item
London: Hamish Hamilton, 1980. First edition of Briggs' somber look into the daily struggles of the working class. Folio, original illustrated boards. Signed and dated by the author on the front free endpaper, "Raymond Briggs 21 April 1981." In near fine condition. English illustrator Raymond Briggs is best known in Britain for his 'books without words', told entirely though full color illustrations. Later in his career, Briggs shifted his focus from charming children's tales to more somber adult-oriented stories including Gentleman Jim, the tale of a working class hero, and When the Wind Blows, a story confronting the horrors of nuclear war.
