Robert Hale, London, 1954. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Good. IV, 5-256 pages. Black coloured boards with gilt titles to the backstrip. Illustrated dustwrapper with white and green titles to the front panel and backstrip. A novel set in the early part of the 20th century when a band of ill-equipped Mexican Indians came out of the jungle to rid their country of the dictator. All of their leaders were ridiculously young and their "general" was the youngest and greatest of them all. Minor rubbing to the backstrip and bumping to the lower book corners. Browning to the text of edges and age toning to the internal text. Browning and offset tanning to the endpapers and original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front paste-down. Chipping to the dustwrapper corners and to the top backstrip edge. Heavy rubbing and creasing to the other dustwrapper edges and there are two small closed tears to the top edge of the rear dustwrapper panel. A small triangular piece is missing to the lower left-hand corner of the front dustwrapper panel. The rear dustwrapper panel shows heavy handling marks, pink staining and rubbing.
