Gene Ward Collection Including An Inscribed Muhammad Ali Photo

New York: Gene Ward, 1974. Original Manuscript . Paper. A rare archive of material from Gene Ward who was a sports writer and boxing editor for The New York Daily News for over 50 years. Included in the archive is a large color photo portrait of Mr. Ward with Muhammad Ali that ALI HAS INSCRIBED,SIGNED AND DATED TO MR. WARD IN 1980. Also included in the archive are 14 different press releases for the Joe Frazier Vs Ali fight #2 that was held at Madison Square Garden in 1974. The press releases are illustrated with small photos of the two fighters. The press releases also contain general info. about boxing and about some of the other fighters on the card. There are also 11 extra press releases from the Garden about the Joe Frazier vs Manuel Ramos fight. There are also 8 handwritten in ink pages by Ward in which he documents each round of the Ali-Frazier fight. In these pages Ward mentions the winner of each round along with notes and handwritten corrections about the punches thrown. Also included are 18 typewritten pages with corrections and notes in Ward's hand. These pages are basically rough drafts for Ward's Daily News articles on several different fights including the Manuel Ramos bout with Frazier and Frazier's fight with Terry Daniels. Finally there are 2 different newspaper articles from The Daily News and Gene Wards obit from The New York Post. There is a faint small circle of discoloration on the lower left hand corner of the photo but otherwise the image is fine and bright. Sold as collection only.
