About This Item

London: Sampson Low,Marston, 1866. Gilt title with coloured floral decoration on green cloth boards which have some light marks and a touch of wear to spine tail and corner tips. Internally there is a neat contemporary name and address to front endpaper, light foxing to closed edges and to some pages but generally a clean, tight copy. Not dated but possibly 1866 (first UK edition was 1865 in two volumes). 400 pages. The author is shown on the front board as Mrs. Whitney, and on the title page as 'The Author of Faith Gartney's Girlhood', but is in fact Mrs. Adeline Dutton Train Whitney (1824-1906), a popular American children's author, writing mainly for young girls. This book is set in New England and is centred around Dr. Gayworth and his women-folk A1C. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
