Very good, slight sunfading to top of front cover, spine, and rear cover. No 9 of 150 copies, printed on "Character" laid paper. Title illustration by John Craxton, plate by Ghika, portrait by Matthew Spender, colophon by Maro Gorky. 1 vols. 8vo. Inscribed by Spender to his friends the Fairchilds. This copy inscribed by Spender on the half-title to Jill and John Fairchild "with love" in the year of publication. John Fairchild was the editor of Womens Wear Daily and founded W magazine, and his wife Jill was a writer, photographer, and documentarian, and their social influence was vast. The Spenders were friendy with the Fairchilds, as they lived down the road from each other in Provence. Barry Humphries' wife was Lizzie Spender (daughter of the poet).
