About This Item
Chicago: A.C. McClurg & Co, 1911. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/Lacking. 5 p. l., 13-198 p. incl. front., illus. 20 cm. small octavo. Yellow green publisher's cloth with violet lettering stamped to spine and front cover. Decoration (charming) in violet and cream color stamped to front cover, portrays a cottage in Paris about the size of the Louvre fluffy clouds rising in the distance behind the architecture and a petite bois stretching towards us. A life-sized statue of some ancestoral figure of the estate stands in center of a great fountain. This quiet scene is our introduction to a certain garden in Paris, a special place for the author, where, newly married, active in society with her husband, and in love, Miss Wallace spends a few magical expatriate years. The consensus of critics of the day was that Miss Wallace made a valuable contribution to the general knowledge of the social customs and mores of the petit bourgeoisie of Paris in the early 1900's. A handsome copy; lacking the jacket but quite fresh and well maintained. Top edge is a little dusty but otherwise completely sound, with v. mild wear to extremities, cream colored pages unmarked, showing no foxing, toning or other signs of age. We are unable to locate any other copies offered. Illustrated by Fred J. Arting.
