Illustrated endpapers, being a reproduction of the painting by Charles Dixon "Landing at Gallipoli, 1915". The text is illustrated with copious contemporary black-and-white photographs and the occasional cartoon. Olive coloured boards with white coloured titles to the back strip. Photographic dustwrapper with black, dark red and yellow coloured titles to the front panel and yellow and white coloured titles to the back strip. Colour photograph of author to the rear fold over panel. "For the first time, the Gallipoli story is told in the words of the ordinary soldier fighting in the trenches. Day by day, starting with the landing on 25 April 1915 right up to the last day on 20 December 1915, the world of the Gallipoli soldier is starkly revealed." -- from the front fold over panel blurb. Rubbing of the book corners and back strip edges. Very, very light age toning of the text block edges. Small stains to the front fore edge, which fades out after the title page.
