[6], vii-xi, [3], 346 pp. Quarter maroon cloth over white cloth with a maroon decoration on the front board with gold lettering on the spine; pink topstain. Red endpapers and pastedowns. Illustrated with several black and white plates. With a bibliography and an index. Goodwater 468: "The only major account in English of the life of Galla Placidia...copiously footnoted, the book combines scholarship with readable prose." Fading to the topstain; jacket shows a tiny nick to the front fold.
