Oertel (born August 15, 1798 in Horn (Hunsruck), 1867 in Wiesbaden) was a German Protestant pastor and writer. To supplement his household budget, Oertel began to write historical-romantic narratives, first under the pseudonym F.W. Lips. After only modest success he changed his style and his pseudonym. He wrote under W. O. von Horn, which was derived from his initials Wilhelm Oertel and his birthplace Horn, novels and stories. His literary breakthrough began with his first novel, Friedel.
