Hamlyn, London, 1974. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Good. Rubbing of the top edge of the dust jacket with splits of the top of the spine either side, and price clipping of the front fold over flap. There is no other damage. Internally the book is clean, and without annotation. Illustrated with a couple of full-page plates and many black-and-white line drawings. As Britain was entering the common market, this book was produced to introduce the average Briton to some of the more rustic dishes that they might encounter if they travelled across the channel. Fancy names, the dishes that the English could have made themselves. – Granny's a real stew – young rabbit with onions – chicken in a pot – braised fennel – potatoes baked with cream – mushroom caps in cream – braised cabbage – asparagus in cheese sauce – garlic butter – caramel rice pudding – sweet pancakes in tangerine source – grape jelly.
