Original space-flown flag (5½" X 4¼") and cloth patch (4¼" X 4 3/4") presented on a 12 3/4" X 16 3/4" cream colored heavy stock, in turn mounted to a 16" X 20" pale blue mat board. Very good. Bit of slight soiling. The cream colored stock bears glossy photographs on the upper left (takeoff) and lower right (landing) corners. At lower left is a circular flute-edged NASA gold foil seal, and the space-flown flag is mounted at upper right -- consisting of the State Seal of Illinois, with the word "ILLINOIS" below, against a white background. The printed text cited above appears immediately below this flag, and the crew patch below this text. JOHN YOUNG (born 1930) signs boldly in black ink to the left of the patch, while ROBERT L. CRIPPEN (born 1937) signs to the right. The Columbia STS-1 flight was called by NASA "The boldest test flight in history." Three pages, 1949. A sprawling, witty and provocative letter written by Pound early on during his extended stay at St. Elizabeth's hospital (12 years, from 1948-1859) to Helen Rossetti Angeli, the daughter of famed Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood co-founder William Michael Rossetti. Written in pencil on the full opened face, with two notes perhaps by HAR, and then on both flaps on the verso, with two wrap-around portions also possibly by HA Rossetti. A lengthy and fascinating letter. We have been able to locate only one other copy of this work (also a Danish translation, from 1815, but lacking the map), manuscript and printed, in Danish, Swedish or Norwegian. Despite the fact that the Strait of Sunda was sailed relatively frequently by European sailors, Krusenstern's 1813-memoir is one of the earliest reliable pilots to this strait. New Orleans: Parish of New Orleans, 1924. 1st Edition. 1st Edition. Signed. First Edition. Truman Capote's original Birth Certificate - issued in the parish of New Orleans & registered the 3rd day of October, 1924 & showing the birth of Truman Streckfus Persons, September 30th, 1924. A unique document. A bit tattered but still quite bright & clean. In 1928, when Truman was 4, the Certificate was given by Capote's mother, Lillie Mae Faulk Persons [soon to be Capote] to her sister, Lucille Faulk Ingram for safekeeping. Lillie Mae was off to New York to make a new life leaving Truman to the care & nurturing of his Monroeville relatives. Outside of the cousins Truman lived with as a child, Lucille Faulk Ingram & her daughter, Cecilia, were his closest kin. As a fledgling writer looking for solitude, it was in the comfort of Lucille Ingram's home that Truman began to write his first novel, Other Voices, Other Rooms.

Near Fine. 5 handwritten letters to William Ward, 1873-1879, regarding the Philadelphia and Chester County Railroad, which existed from 1872 to 1885; it was succeeded by the Philadelphia Midland Railroad. William Ward was one of the organizers of the Philadelphia and Chester County Railroad and in 1874 was the president and treasurer pro tem. Letters #1 and #2 (Sept. 5 and Dec. 5, 1873) are from Jos. H. McKeehan, an attorney in Philadelphia, who is writing about deliquent subscribers to the railroad. Letter #3 (Dec. 18, 1873) is from the Village Record, a newspaper in West Chester, Pa., with a copy of the advertisement that ran in the paper listing the dates that instalments from railroad subscribers were due in 1872. Letter #4 (Nov. 26, 1875) is from John Smith of Ridley Park, about a plan to petition to vacate a street and public ground adjoining Mr. Bartol's purchase. 1814. Near Fine. On 25 March 1814 Margaret Cauffman of Philadelphia, gentlewoman, sold to Isaac Overholtzer of Norriton Township, Montgomery County, for $650 a lot of woodland of almost 5 acres in Providence Township, Montgomery Co., on the road leading from the Germantown and Perkiomen turnpike and on the Norristown Road. Signed by Margaret Cauffman; witnesses Sarah A. Cauffman, Catharine Wiseman, and Alexander J. Uhlyn; and Delaware County Judge Mark Willcox. Mark Willcox (1743-1827) was the son of Thomas Willcox (1689-1779), the founder of Ivy Mills, which produced the paper used for early currency of the United States. He continued to run the paper mill after his father's death in 1779; he also served as an associate judge for Delaware County from 1791 to 1823. His second wife was Anna Mary Cauffman, a sister of Margaret Cauffman. In Near Fine Condition; 1 x 10 cm. section lacking at lower left-hand corner, with minor loss of writing; otherwise, clean and bright.

Calligraphic title page, the text written in black, red and green inks. Photo negative of the fold out 'Street of taste' pull-out and typed leaf of 'The growth of good taste' tree, both loosely inserted. The corresponding page numbers from the 1933 first edition are noted in the margins, and the text contains the unchanged poem on page 119, suggesting that this was copied from a first issue of the first edition. Half beige buckram binding with marbled paper on boards. Marbled endpapers. All edges speckled with red. A fine copy of this curious but attractive item.
