F. Fuggles; cream-colored dust jacket printed in yellow and black and priced 7s/6d. A superb copy in the very lightly tanned dust jacket. A collection of ten short stories, six of which had originally appeared in a slender limited edition of only 600 copies, in 1930. "Porter was thirty-two years old when she published her first story ('María Concepción') and forty years old when she published Flowering Judas, her first collection, [which] received such enthusiastic critical acclaim that Porter's high position in American letters was permanently fixed. Edward Weeks in The Atlantic Monthly judged the stories 'superb', and Louise Bogan in The New Republic declared that '[no other writer has a talent quite like [Porter's].' . . . In 1935 Flowering Judas, enhanced with four more stories, was reprinted as Flowering Judas and Other Stories, and the critical adulation continued.
