Minneapolis / Tucson: Granary Books, Chax Press, 1987. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Fine. Miller, Cynthia. Copy "A" of 26 lettered copies, quarto size, [43] pp., signed by the author. In "Firebird", American poet Paul Metcalf (1917-1999) combines the story of the Peshtigo fire of 1871 with accounts of great hawk migrations. The book is an example of his signature style, a collection of texts from various sources pieced together to create new voices and ideas. This edition is grandly presented by Granary Books, an appropriate collaboration between two like-minded creators with a focus on the visual presentation of the text. Notably, Metcalf was the great-grandson of one of his own influences, Herman Melville.
