In this latter, Brown explains a work project, in part: "...The recent storm and cold weather has decided me not to attempt going to Springfield at present - the crossing from Brooklyn to New York for several days has been almost impossible...Will you please...have the edges of the bas-relief planed off [see diagrams] and a cornice of wood made which will show your purpose for the casting...The space which the work is to occupy is in this form; upon the top tier is to be a lamp which I have one. On the side - 2 dolphins. The whole space is five feet one inch. Will you not come down soon that we may talk about the future and before my statue is mounted for the foundry?" Natural folds and faint browning and staining, but still in very good condition.

The Father of American Sculpture best known for his equestrian statue of George Washington in Union Square Park, New York City.
