Father condemning Daughter (Original correspondence, 1937) by Mr. Gregson (father) - 1937

Skidmore College, 1937. Very Good. Hand-written letter from father to daughter Agnes Gregson, dated 1937. The purpose of the letter seems simply to shame the daughter into dressing more appropriately so as not to incur any more physical ailments, like piles. He states:"I am very much disturbed to hear you have piles...cannot help but feel this has been brought on by your own carelessness and disregard of advice, your habit of going around half clothed has undoubtedly brought them on plus possibly the fact you are constipated...see the nurse...have yourself attended to...commence immediately to clothe yourself properly, I don't want ever to see your legs bare right up to your backside again, if you won't look after your self properly I will bring you home."Presuably, Agnes attended Skidmore College in the 1930s, and graduated from high school in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where her father lived and worked for the American Chain Company, noted on the envelope. An item indicative of mid-century parenting measures, about adopting airs of righteousness in the face of common decency.
