First edition, with the publisher's 1 in parentheses (1) on the final page of the text. 312 pages. With a frontispiece and three internal illustrations in color by George Varian, all present. The cloth shows only very light wear at the extremities. The text has light foxing, heaviest opposite the illustrations. Hinges solid; binding square. Former owners name in pencil to the front free endpaper, otherwise unmarked. One of only five novels from the son of William Osborn Stoddard, Abraham Lincoln's "third" secretary. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall
