Pictorial endpapers; 15 full-page color plates and 15 full-page b&w illustrations. A clean, tight copy with light rubbing to edges, spine lightly sunned, boards lightly soiled. Signed by the author, Isidora Newman, who has hand painted in the line-drawing by Pogany on the front endpapers of the book.

Second printing. A wonderful collection of folk and fairy tales magnificently illustrated in color and black and white by Willy Pogány. Author Isidora Newman, a playwrite, poet, and folklorist, has painted Pogány's double-page line drawing on the front endpapers in full color and gold leaf! The book is inscribed by Newman and dated 1946.

First edition When young Tom Potts "was fooling with a gun" it accidentally goes off and plows a hole through all of the town. One of the first great successful novelty books, featuring a hole (ostensibly created by the bullet) in the center of each page.

Green cloth with gilt spine lettering, decorative endpapers, 10.25" tall, 196 pages, no dustjacket, possibly as issued. Light shelf soil and edge rubbing to the covers, good hinges, sound text block, clean pages with a 1928 gift notation, child's bookplate and name inside the front cover, child's name written on verso of front free endpaper. Plates are in very good condition, with the top edges of a few of the backing pages a little wavy (probably from the process used to tip on the plates), portions of three of the line drawings neatly colored in with pastel colored crayons, tiny tears to the edges of two leaves, chipping to the inner margin of one leaf that does not affect the text. . Hard Cover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
