London: Faber, 1964. Ends of spine softened, tips gently bumped, and a small light coloured stain on top edge of pages; internally clean and tightly bound. Dust jacket has significant wear along top edge, especially the spine panel, and the spine panel is faded. 280 pages with index plus many B&W illustrations from photographs. Inscribed by author on the front free endpaper to a friend "To ___ with affection. George Woodcock. June, 1964". Laid-in is a single full page typed letter on tissue paper signed by Woodcock written to the same person as the signed book, but dated three years earlier (4th November, 1961) while Woodcock and Inge, his wife, were in India doing research and photography for this book. In the letter Woodcock describes their travels in brief, Bombay to New Delhi, and adds some personal notes regarding their travels.. Signed by Author. First Edition. Hard Cover in Dust Jacket. Very Good Plus/Good Plus. Illus. by Ingeborg Woodcock (photographs by).
