Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

Among his apprentices were some of the most distinguished engravers of the first half of the 19th century. When later artists like Gordon Craig and William Nicholson revived the tradition of creative work on wood, they turned to Bewick's example in freeing themselves from the trammels of reproductive engraving." Raised bands, spine panels richly gilt, leather spine labels (chipped), gilt floral front and back cover fillets, inner dentelles.

Spencer of High Holburn. 1/500 large paper copies of "The Imperial Edition" with the Bewick's Thumb Mark Receipt on leaf with red fern design printed over a moonlit landscape just above. Illustrated with 188 wood engraved illustrations and 136 tailpieces.
