First edition, first impression, with no reprint information on the copyright page as with later impressions. Scarce. Complete with fifteen full page plates. Arthur C Clarke's second work of non-fiction, written a year after Interplanetary Flight, 'The Exploration of Space' was written to explain as simply as possible the possible results of man's increasing success in space travel. The work was written eighteen years before man walked on the moon. Arthur C. Clarke was a British science fiction writer and inventor, who is widely regarded as a key figure in the popularisation of space travel. His screenplay for the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey, which was co-written with Stanley Kubrick, is considered to be one of the most influential films of all time. For many years Arthur C. Clarke, along with Robert Heinlein and Isaac Asmiov, were considered the 'Big Three' of science fiction writing. Condition: In a blue cloth binding in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally very smart, with some slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Slight sunning to the head and tail of the spine. Dustwrapper is sound, with chipping and closed tears to the extremities. Area of loss to the head and tail of the spine. Weap has been reinforced to the reverse which archival tape. Spine is sunned. Handling marks to the wrap. Internally generally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with just the odd spot heavier to the first and last few pages. Offsetting to half title. Overall Condition: Very Good in a Good Only dustwrapper.
