Illustrated endpapers, both different, the front paste-down being a montage of actual theatre criticisms and the free front end paper showing an an illustration by Ronald Searle. Black-and-white Illustrated frontispiece by Ronald Searle who in fact drew all the illustrations within the text. Blue coloured cloth covered boards with gilt titles to the backstrip. Rubbing to the book edges and browning and foxing to the textblock edges and light aged toning of the internal text. Original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front paste-down Illustrated dustwrapper, by Ronald Searle, with pink and white background and black titles to the front panel and backstrip. Chipping to the dustwrapper corners and to the backstrip edges. Fading to the backstrip and the dustwrapper shows rubbing and a few foxing spots. Clipping of the dustwrapper, front fold over, lower right-hand corner. Foxing to the verso of the dustwrapper. In this book dramatic criticism is looked at from both the artist/playwright's point of view and that of the literary critic himself. Christopher Fry details about his own and other playwright's experiences at the hands of the critic, and the critics -- Ivor Brown, W. A.
