About This Item
London: Published by Wm. Pickering, 1836. First edition, 4to (280 x 220 mm), 50 engraved plates (including engraved decorative title, 2 hand-coloured), some quite heavy soiling and foxing, Roxburghe-style olive-green roan, red paper boards, expertly rebacked to style. Although quite badly foxed, this is a rare work. It depicts mainly ornamental iron work designs for such items as staircases, lamps, railings, chandeliers, street lamps, gates, door handles etc. "In some cases the designers and/or executants are acknowledged, and these include Francis Bedford, Richard Bridgens, Decimus Burton, John Goldicutt, Francis Goodwin, Charles Inwood, William Knight, James Savage, Shaw himself, Sir Robert Smirke and Lewis Vulliamy."RIBA. RIBA, Early Printed Books, 2987.
