Nashville, TN: Published for the President of the Julius Rosenwald Fund by the Social Science Institute at Fisk University [later:] American Council on Race Relations, September 1943 through January 1947.. Twenty-three numbers in twenty-two issues (one a double number), plus eleven duplicates. Small quarto (25.5 x 19.5 cm). Printed self- wrappers. Most addressed and postally used, three numbers pulled at staples and with tears to spines, one number with pencil doodling on upper wrapper, some creases and dust soiling to a few numbers, some staple rust, but generally good to very good, and somewhat better. A substantial run of this monthly: Volume I: 2-4, 6-12; Volume II: 1/2-12; Volume III:6 and Volume IV:6. Of the primary numbers in the run, nine are addressed and posted to African American novelist and essayist, Richard Wright, several showing changes of address in ink and pencil. Nashville: Fisk University, 1948. Softcover. Near Fine. Collection 27 issues bound in 20. Quartos. As follows: Volume 2, Numbers 7,12; Volume 3, Numbers 1-2,6,12; Volume 4, Numbers 1-8 (number 8 lacks wrappers), 9-12; Volume 5, Numbers 1-2,6-12. Some wear and small chips, most issues have "free" written in pencil. Overall very good. A partial run of this important African-American journal published at Fisk from 1943 to 1948 under the direction of Fisk President Charles S. Johnson, an important figure behind the vibrant African-American art movement of the 1920s and one of the godfathers of the Harlem Renaissance, which he helped to nurture through his editorship of *Opportunity* magazine. The *Summary* aggregated magazine and newspaper articles important to the subject of race relations, segregation, housing, welfare, civil rights, police administration, and much more.
