About This Item

Baudry's European Library, Paris, 1832. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 487 pages (complete). A resolute copy. Half-leather, marbled boards. The leather corners are much worn, scuffed, rubbed. They are baleful. The spine too has much wear to head and foot. It has scuffed, a little scarring. It is fit for purpose. The boards are scuffed, marked, benign. They are secure and steady. Within, the contents are amiably aged. The front pastedown has an ex-libris plate showing previous ownership by Mrs Alfred Turner of Kelvedon (she was an avid collector and organiser for the war effort during the Great War). This is an edition published during the same publication year as this novel of the infamous Aram. Bulwer-Lytton was excessively popular. Indeed he is known for the phrases "the great unwashed", "pursuit of the almighty dollar", "the pen is mightier than the sword", "dweller on the threshold", and the well-known opening line "It was a dark and stormy night". The contents have foxing, age mottling, some wear. They are placid, clear, competent, certain, keen. fk. Our orders are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.
