The use of poetry is extensively discussed, including its earlier appearance in the Anahuac and Incan cultures as well as among the Araucanos of Chile. There are numerous examples in the native languages, followed by a Spanish translation. Finally, there is a vocabulary of the Veliche language which has been expanded to include notes on the botany andzoology of the Chilo‚ Archipelago as well as ethnographic observations of the inhabitants.
