About This Item

Nelson Canada Limited, 1980. 148 pp. Foreword by Emil Rosing. English translation by Jack Jensen and Val Clery. Caligraphy by Mel Poteck. THomas Frederiksen was born in Iginiarfic in 1939. From early youth he kept a diary for his own amusement, noting down events and experiences of his own as well as those told him by others. He appreciates Greenland humour and delights in genuine Greenland expressions. He shows respect and pride for his forefathers by reviving tales and legends, at the same time, describing developments and their consequences. The contents of this diary are a small social and cultural history in pictures and text. Text comprised of English on one side, Eskimo on the other 75 colour paintings by the author depicts the stark vistas seen from ice packs and floes, the fog-shrouded life aboard hunting ships, and the subtle changes of colour that mark a harsh landscape's seasons. Bookplate to ffep.. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Near Fine. Illus. by Thomas Frederiksen.
