London: Harvey & Darton, 1825. 384pp. Bound in a pale green polished calf with elaborate decorative blind stamp around the inside edges, a leather spine label stamped in gilt, and all edges marbled (although most of this is worn away). Frontispiece engraving depicting King John ratifying the Magna Charta. Gift inscription of Sir Robert Uniacke Fitzgerald to his son, Robert Uniacke, on the title page. Sir Robert was MP (member of the House of Commons, first elected such in 1885) from Cambridge Borough. He appears to have lived a quiet life, as befitting landed gentry. In the February 1895 Vanity Fair he was caricatured by Leslie Ward. In 1896 he adopted the name Uniacke-Penrose Fitzgerald and was titled Baronet of Corkberg and Lisquinlan in County Cork. He was President of the Council of the Yacht Racing Association. Corners bumped and rubbed, but not rubbed through. Hinges cracked. Lacking the back endpaper. Some staining to the front pastedown. An attractive book, with an interesting provenance. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Second Edition. Contemporary Full Leather. Good/No Jacket. Book.
