This last volume in the English Historical Documents series was split into two books; this is Book One. The series was under the general editorship of David C Douglas. This covers years 1833-1874 (the second book covers the years 1874 to 1914). Documents are organized by sections on: The Monarchy; Parliament; National Resources -- Economic Structure and Development; The Churches; Chartism and Free Trade; Law, Penal System, and Courts; Central Administration; Local Government; The Poor Law; Public Health; Education; and Industrial Conditions and Legislation. Each section has its own bibliography. Originally published in 1956. 8vo (9.5 inches tall) 1017 pages. Index.
