Lettering on the spine appears to have been skewed when binding. Binding is tight. Rear free endpaper has a very small missing piece at bottom corner. Cover has a moderate to heavy amount amount of shelfwear. Cover is chipping, rubbed, abraded, and worn. Previous owner's markings on second free front endpaper (below inscription).

Errata slip tipped in. Not to be confused with the far more common later 1880 edition. A series of 100 biographical sketches of the most renown Jewish personalities of the 19th century. Among them: Isaac Adolphe Cremieux, Isaac D'Israeli, Achille Fould, Giacomo Meyerbeer, Jacques Offenbach, Henry de Worms, etc. "Seventy [of these sketches] have appeared seriatim in The Jewish record.
