A detailed study of "dislocative nationalism" (a more modern term), an ideology first put forth by Mirza Fath'ali Akhundzadeh and Mirza Aqa Khan Kermani in during the 1860s - 1890s, and adopted by the Pahlavi regime in the early 20th c. It casts pre-Islamic Iran as a golden age, with Islam seen as an alien religion. An important work of intellectual history.
