New York: Edwin Miles Fadman, 1923. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/fair. Very light shelf wear the book; significantly more to tips, corners, and edges of the jacket which is tattered with most of the spine perished. First printing, no others noted. The publishers call the book "A popular explanation making the fundamentals of the subject plain." "Garrett Putnam Serviss (March 24, 1851 May 25, 1929) was an American astronomer, popularizer of astronomy, and early science fiction writer. Serviss was born in upstate New York and majored in science at Cornell University... Serviss' favorite topic was astronomy, and of the fifteen books he wrote, eight are devoted to it. He unquestionably was more widely read by the public on that topic than anyone prior to his time.He worked with Max and Dave Fleischer on The Einstein Theory of Relativity (1923), a short silent film released in connection with one of Serviss' books."--from Wikipedia. The book was illustrated with stills from that film. "The Fleischers lifted footage from the German predecessor, Die Grundlagen der Einsteinschen Relativitäts-Theorie directed by Hanns-Walter Kornblum, for inclusion into their film... If actual footage was not recycled into The Einstein Theory of Relativity, (these) images and text from the Scientific American article suggest that original visual elements from the German film were.-Wikipedia. Crandall of Max Fleischer's Out-of-the-Inkwell Studio." 12mo. 96pp. Decorative cloth. Near fine. A fascinating attempt to explain Einstein's theory. Fleischer's early cartoon protagonist Koko the Clown appears as a vignette, as well as on the rear board, wearing spectacles and perplexedly trying to puzzle out "Einstein's Theory." Also issued in a wrappered issue, both issues are uncommon.
