About This Item
NA. Very Good. N.d., mid-18th Century almost certainly, a hand-colored design on vellum which was meant to have been folded and attached to the spokes of a fan but wasn't. The paper is a half-circle, with the length 52.5 cm, the height, 29 cm. The image is richly colored, with the dominance of deep blues and greens, and the scene evokes the pastoral fantasy so infectious to the aristocracy during the reign of Louis XV. The image itself would have filled out the fan. The vellum has many a flattened crease, and there is light soiling, and perhaps a touch of fading of the gouache paint on the image. Still, something that would be very attractive mounted and matted.
