Seattle: Fantagraphics Books, 1998. Comic. variously 24p., 28p., 32p., and 36p., staplebound wraps, all 6.5x10.25 inches except for #19 which is 7.75x10.25 inches; most are stated 1st printings except for #5 & #6 which are stated 2nd printings and #14 which has no colophon oddly enough. All are very good to our untrained eyes, except #5, #6 and #16 which have small cover dogears, with #16 also having a small tear at the dogear, but other than those details very good. These are comic books, not graphic novels, however they are printed on coated stock and the later issues have stiff covers. Clowes was one of the most brilliant cartoonists to come out of the alternative and indy comics milieu. A veritable king of alienation, humiliation, cynicism, and carefully modulated contempt, plus a flexible and sophisticated drawing style capable of shifting from Noir and surrealism to broadly cartoony.

Text and images inside appear clean and clear throughout. Eightball #18 includes the bound-in copy of Clowes's pamphlet Modern Cartoonist. 'Eightball is a comic book by Daniel Clowes and published by Fantagraphics Books. It ran from 1989 to 2004. The first issue appeared soon after the end of Clowes's previous comic book, Lloyd Llewellyn. Eightball has been among the best-selling series in alternative comics.
