Emboss of former owner on title page. 540 p. w/ illus., endnotes, bibliography, index. The major biography of this late 17th -early 18th century English "Natural Philosopher" and early scientist, who helped push Newton to write his PRINCIPIA and knew Boyle, Hook, Pepys, Wren, and others. While best known for predicting the return of the comet that now bears his name, Halley was also a notable ship's captain, servant of the state, and researcher into the magnetic field of the Earth. A great addition to any library strong in the history of science.
