An about very good copy in lightly soiled wrappers with a small abrasion to the front cover and small innocuous stain to the top corner of the rear panel near the spine. Signed by Levine on the title page. Despite the flaws, a very presentable copy.

This is the first trade edition after a limited edition of 225 copies. Inscribed by Levine to Poet James Dickey who was at the peak of his career. Levine has written his professorial address below the signature. Dickey was writer in residence at San Fernando Valley State College in 1964-65 (California Sojourn,Chapter 18)

Levine would go on, in his long career, to win the National Book Award twice, the Pulitzer Prize, and be the United States Poet Laureate as well.

This copy no doubt sent to his parents in 1963, which would have come back to him after their passing. This is Levine's first published book.
