"This essay both suffers and derives advantages from the fact thst it has been written in the field." The author believes that the lack od access to European libraries is more than offset by the exceptional opportunities to collate the monumental and textual evidence to be found in Egypt relating to the Libyans and in regard to the Nubians his active engagement in the Nubian Archaeological Survey during the year in which the great "C Group" cemetry at Dakkah was excavated. Ex Dept. of Ethnography, British Museum with various stamps, but not excessive by British Library standards.
