About This Item

London: John Murray, 1874. 1st ed. Hardcover. Good. lightly colored folding map, 11p. plus [2]p. publisher's advertisements. Original cloth. 19cm. Binding slightly swaybacked partly because the rear cover has been bent heavily enough toward the top to cause a jagged split of the rear pastedown. Armorial bookplate (Augustin Cochin). INSCRIBED by Frere in 1874 to Madame Benoist d'Azy Cochin. Folded and mounted on a blank leaf at the end is an undated letter in French to Monsieur Benoist d'Azy from an official at the Congregation de la Mission at St. Lazare in which that official comments appreciatively about some statements by Frere about Catholic missionaries.
