Pages are lightly tanned and heavily foxed, with a few nicks and creases along text block edge. Moderate cracking to hinges and gutters, with exposed netting. Binding remains mostly firm. Pencil inscription to front free endpaper. Occasional thumb-marking present throughout. Water staining through upper corners. Plates are lightly tanned and moderately foxed. Slight tearing to rear pages. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with notable bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Book has a pronounced forward lean. Moderate tanning to spine and edges, with visible crushing to spine ends. Slight bubbling to spine.

First published in 1901 this new edition by the prolific author gives an account of the history, antiquities and topography of east London, here designated by Besant as that part of the city north of the Thames and east of Bishopgate Street Without, thereby taking in Hackney, Clapton, Stoke Newington, Old Ford, Stepney, Bow, and areas east of the Lea, such as Stratford, West Ham and East Ham. NOTE that as the volumes weighs some 1230g it will incur a carriage supplement for overseas (but not UK) orders, the amount depending on destination and process.
