London : Robert Hale, 1960. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Good/Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. First edition first printing 1960. Ex-library hardback book is in remarkable condition with less than usual library stamps and markings, nice and square. Boards have nice corners, and are clean. Spine is gently bumped to head and foot, title gilt fully legible. The hinges are strong with no evidence of cracking or starting. The front pastedown has a "W H Smiths Library Book Plate that has a stamp on it, no other stamps, markings or notations. The FEP has been neatly removed by the previous owner presumably this had a lending sheet or further stamps. Text block is clean, with light toning to edges, a little more pronounced to the top edge. The pages are white and remarkably crisp, unblemished. Feels read, but is not loose, and the binding is not stressed at all. Grades good due to missing FEP and bookplate, however is close to near fine in other respects. The jacket is complete, with bold colours and grades as near fine. For grading accuracy books are photographed without a protective book cover. This book is fitted with a non adhesive archival quality book protector to make a worthy addition to your collection. Note we do not use stock images, the book pictured is the book described. Considering that this an ex-library copy of this title it is in great condition. A scarce alternative history novel, based on the premise that Napoleon was born in Britain (which he nearly was!) and makes his move for European domination after becoming the Governor-General of India. A very difficult book to find, that presents well on the shelf, one for the SF collector.

Description:
London: Robert Hale Limited, 1960 . First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good. 8" by 5". None. A very scarce first edition of this entertaining novel in which history meets fantasy, written by Edward Atiyah. First edition. Bound in the publisher's original cloth, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Very scarce. A file copy from David Higham's, a prominent literary agent founded in 1935. Written by Anglo-Lebanese author Edward Atiyah, who was known for his autobiographical work and his political activism. This particular novel centers on the little-known fact that Napoleon was almost born in England rather than Corsica. The premise of this novel assumes that this possibility actually happened, with the author reconstructing Napoleon's entire life in a British setting. Bound in the publisher's original cloth, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with light shelf wear. Pencil inscription of 'David Highams File Copy' to the front endpaper. Dust wrapper is very smart,… Read More
