Description: The b&w illustrations include a frontis, eight additional plates, six drawings, and a large fold-out plate at the rear. The fold-out is a regimental photo: ''Company E, First Gas Regiment, February 6, 1919''. Foreword by Captain Roscoe B Dayton. Colonel B J Atkisson of the First Gas Regiment presents a letter from General Fries as an introductory note. An excerpt from this letter: ''The war is over and apparently the work of the First Gas Regiment. At this time, I desire personally, and on behalf of the Chemical Warfare Service as a whole, to express to you and the officers and men of the First Gas Regiment under you, our pride and profound admiration of the work you have done. To take a new regiment and in a few short months teach it an entirely new method of warfare, known to few but the enemy, and so handle that work that the Chemical Warfare Service, as well as the regiment, became favorably known throughout an army of nearly 2,000,000 men, is an achievement of which any body of men may well be proud.'' End material includes a Casualty List, The Roster, and blank pages intended for regimental autographs. The roster is complete; each entry has a code indicating which men were original members, men who were subsequently added, men who were permanently dropped from the company and men who stayed in Europe with the exhibition platoon. Printed by Holson Printing Co, Brooklyn, New York.
