Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. introduction, preface and notes by editor, letter to Charles Earl of Dorset, "To The Reader", 2 appendices and index. Light green coloured boards with black illustration on the front panel along with decoration and black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. This book is about the English Theatre prepared to the French Theatre after the Restoration of the monarchy in England in the early 1600s. For a Dryden himself says in his "To The Reader" -- "the drift of the ensuring discourse was chiefly to vindicate the one of our English writers from the censure of those who unjustly preferred the French before them.". Bumping of the corners of the book and shelf wear evident to the top and bottom book edges. Sun has caused darkening of the spine and to just either side of the spine. Cloth is rubbed, faded and mark and there is bumping to the head and to the heel of the spine. Browning and foxing to the endpapers and on the free front endpaper previous owners name/initials are ink in; as well as ink notations for the full length of the page. Foxing has occurred and is noticeable throughout the book and there are occasional pencil markings and notations within the text. Size: 12mo (standard paperback).
