About This Item
London: Evans Brothers Ltd.. Good with no dust jacket; Spine sunned, boards rounded, spine cocked, . owner name on verso of front free endpaper.. 1950. First Edition. Hardcover. Blue cloth. Map endpapers. Many black and white photos. Opinionated, entertainingly indignant marginalia throughout, making this as much a personal travel diary of the previous owner as it is Manning's. Manning is a British writer best known for her Fortunes of War series set during World War II, but this book is a travelogue through Ireland. The marginalia is largely critical of Mannings prose, from her description of the Blarney Stone (how damn silly can you get? ) to the OShea scandal (is this supposed to be witty? ) but also blasts Pope John XXII, snobs, and the English in general. Two of the photos have other black and white photos pasted over them. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 202 pages .
