A few of the plates are bound in different places than listed on the contents page but all are present. 4 pages of publishers adverts for the colonial library at the rear of the book. The text and illustrations are fine, clean and bright throughout and look unread. Publishers decorative green cloth which has dark blue illustration to the front board and spine. Gilt lettering to the spine. Decorative light blue and white floral endpapers with ship and swan designs. There are a couple of small closed tears to the spine and the cloth is a bit rubbed and bumped and has a few small marks but is generally in very good condition with the gilt on the spine still quite bright. The First and only Edition. The book was conceived by Seamus Heaney and Cathal McCabe and designed by Pawel Tryzno. Printed by the Book Art Museum, Lodz. The edition was limited to 250 signed, numbered copies in total - 200 regular and 50 de luxe copies. This is one of the scarcer fifty Deluxe copies produced on handmade paper, Signed and Numbered in Roman numerals (number XV111) by Heaney and with his handwritten quote from the poem ''Saw Music''. Two poems and an essay written by Seamus Heaney in memory of Czeslaw Milosz, the Polish Nobel Laureate. The book was designed by Pawel Tryzno and printed partially on Zanders Zeta paper and partially on handwoven paper by the Book Art Museum, Lodz, Poland. The book has stainless steel covers and comes in a prepared mixed-media wrap featuring a silkscreen collage of articles published in Polish newspapers in the days following Milosz's death. The book is encased in a slipcase of thick clear Polish glass with a metal alloy spine which reproduces Seamus Heaney's signature in relief and which holds the book between two glass rods. Longmans, Green & Co. London. 1907. FIRST EDITION. First printing. Large 8vo. (8.5 x 6.4 inches). Colour frontis, 22 full page mono plates and hundreds of small engraved vignettes to the margins of the text pages, all by E. Caldwell. This is the scarce first issue with the margin drawings of a dung beetle pushing his load with his front legs rather than his back on pages 65, 337 and 457. These were changed in later issues. Some feint offsetting to the blank endpapers and a few pages with some minor spotting but generally a very bright and clean copy throughout. Publishers original dark green cloth with gilt illustrations and lettering to the front board and the spine. The board edges are lightly rubbed and the gilt just a little dulled but overall a very good copy of this scarce first edition.
