Contains the 1911 88 page introduction by Shaw, with poscripts dated 1930 and 1933. A tragedy written in response to the current state of health care in Great Britain circa 1911. A sardonic and pointed diatribe against the unregulated private practice of medicine and its odiuos consequences for public health. Though largely overhadowed by more famous prose and theatric works penned by Shaw, the play has some resonance in light of contemporary debate surronding "national health policy'. Smith; Lucy Smith was the wife of T. R. Smith, editor of the Century magazine and chief editor at Liveright in the 1920s. Shaw, 1856-1950, was an Irish dramatist and social critic. The leading playwright of his time, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1925.
