Pickering Batchelour of Divinitie and Minister of Finchingfield in Essex. Whereunto is adioyned a twofold table; one of the order and heades of the treatise; another of the texts of Scripture explaned, or vindicated from the corrupt interpretation of the aduersarie. Dedication to the famous Sir Edward Coke, Lord Chief Justice. SECOND EDITION 1610, first published 1608. 8vo, approximately 155 x 100 mm, 6¼ x 4 inches, pages: [16], 1-256, [8], the last 8 pages of Tables should have been bound in at the front with the prelims, bound in full reverse calf (suede), rebacked to style, gilt lettered morocco label to spine, gilt rule to edges of covers, speckled edges. Uneven dark stains to covers, old ink name to title of E.W. Sergeant with his bookplate on first pastedown, bookplate of Fox Pointe Collection on rear pastedown, staining to edges of pastedowns and both free endpaper slightly dusty, top corner of first free endpaper repaired, small pale brown spot to one leaf, otherwise a very good clean copy. William Perkins was an influential English cleric and Cambridge theologian, receiving both a B.A. and M.A. from the university in 1581 and 1584, and also one of the foremost leaders of the Puritan movement in the Church of England during the Elizabethan era. First edition of a landmark Dutch anti-colonialist and anti-missionary treatise. This controversial and heavily criticized work marks a shift in thinking about the Western influence around the world. At the end of November 1803, the Teyler's Religious Society in Haarlem organized a competition.
