University of Maryland, 1861. Very Good. Document on vellum, two horizonal folds, one vertical fold.

This degree was granted 2 March 1861. It is signed by his professors, including William A. Hammond, M.D. Hammond very soon after re-joined the U.S. Army medical service. A year later he was named Surgeon-General. Post-war Hammond became a prominent neurologist at New York City. He also founded the Quarterly Journal of Psychological Medicine and Medical Jurisprudence, and wrote the first textbook on nervous diseases in the English language. Like Hammond, Dr. Manifold became an army physician and surgeon in 1864. He ran a field hospital for the 13th New York Infantry, and the 9th New Jersey Cavalry.
