Description:
Tobaccoville, North Carolina:: Catbird (on the Yadkin) Press,, 2009.. Series of 8, each unique. 12 x 6.5"; 4 pages. Woodcuts/intaglio printed and collaged on a variety of papers. Bound on sewing machine with cloth. Terry Schupbach-Gordon: "This book and its seven other 'sister' books were made to tell about what I learn in the garden. I am an avid gardener and lover of all movements beneath the ground. I have successes and failures, and most often, leave the garden uplifted and renewed. I love the poetry of Theodore Roethke, and these books are dedicated to his memory and his words, and to what he, also learned in the garden.

1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. History and very detailed analysis of the printing and publication of the book from the viewpoint of the Nazi Party and Dritte Reich, German gothic text (of course), ill, f/o, foreword by Hans Johst. In 1933, Johst signed the Gelbnis treuester Gefolgschaft, a declaration of loyalty to Hitler by pro-Nazi writers. In 1935, Johst became the President of the Reichsschrifttumskammer (writer's union) and of the Deutsche Akademie fr Dichtung (poetry academy), powerful organisations for German writers. In the same year the last prominent Jewish writers, e.g. Martin Buber, were expelled from the Reichsschrifttumskammer. By this time these organisations restricted membership to writers whose work was either explicitly pro-Nazi or at least approved of by the Nazis as non-"degenerate". Johst achieved many other positions of importance within the Nazi state and the SS. He was the Nazi poet laureate. A rare book in excellent condition, VG/VG, 1st edn. Wonderful drawing on dust jacket by Albrecht Durer, 1506. The book was published with the assistance of Hellmuth Langenbucher, regarded as one of the leading Nazi literary scholars and was one of the most influential journalists and publicists of the Nazi Party.

Paris, J. Sevin, n.d. (1893). Oblong (11 x 27 cm). 12 plates, printed on the recto only. Printed wrapprs with staples. (staples a bit rusted, wrappers a bit damaged and waterstained but interior fine). The printed cover serves as a titlepage. A very scarce late nineteenth century lettering book for the use of painters, architects etc. On the inside front cover the publisher explains that this booklet distinguished itself from other by the simplicity of the letters used as examples. Most of the plates attribute the letters used to Deberny & Cie. I have only found one library holding this (BNF) who date it 1893.

Small octavo (11x16mm) hand bound collection of bookplate facsimiles. The spine is cloth with a small paper title and the boards are sturdy fiberboard. The 30+ unpaginated pages are secure in the binding. Each page has a design attached, some have been glued down. Most of these bookplates are black and white. Great reference material. Many of the facsimile plates have text on their backside leading me to suppose they were taken from a periodical featuring Ex Libris plates.

Witney: The Strawberry Press, 2007. First edition. Hardcover. New copy. Imperial octavo. Pp. 40. Illustrated: 12 plates. Slip-case. Number 49 of 150 copies printed by Paul W. Nash on Zerkall mould-made paper. The drawings were printed by J. W. Northend Ltd. of Sheffield. An additional ten copies on hand-made paper, specially bound in red morocco and preserved in a clam-shell box were also issued (details on these from the bookseller). Lord Carlow wrote this essay in 1938 for a book he meant to publish at his Corvinus Press, but the book was never completed because the plates and the printed sheets were destroyed by enemy action in May 1941. Only one copy survived, that belonging to Lord Carlow himself. Paul W. Nash is the author of a detailed study and bibliography on the Corvinus Press (Scholar Press. Aldershot: 1994), and his efforts to bring this book into print are commendable. A most beautiful production in every respect!

Signed and numbered by the artist. Lise Melhorn-Boe: "I have wanted to make a book with sewing patterns for many years, so was delighted to discover Alexandra Cussons's poem, used with her permission. The poem describes the creation of a woman, who then destroys the pattern to maintain her uniqueness. Cussons is a British poet who won the Poetry Society's Foyle Young Poet of the Year Award in 2011 for this poem. The text of the poem is layered with pattern pieces, hand-illustrated sewing instructions, photos of the body parts and the final figure." The artist has mingled the three verses of the poem with pattern pieces and assembly instructions. She has also included images of each of the sewn pieces and then the final sewing project.

Jon Coffelt, "Sara Garden Armstrong Threads and Layers": "This book is a catalogue for a solo exhibition that was cancelled. The images come from work scheduled to be exhibited at a gallery in Amersterdam's red-light district. Armstrong's intent was to provide the viewer with an experience of the show and a feel for its location, thus the inclusion of subtle pornographic images printed in red strips, eventually revealing the gallery's street address. Found images, photographs, and photo-collages - often layered - work together, drawing the viewer into a kind of dark journey. The experience differs each time this journey is undertaken. Austin: Texas Writers Project, 2000. Original . Broadside. FINE. 24 x 36 inches, printed on high quality coated stock with metalic ink. Shipped- rolled in heavy tube. This fabulous poster was created especially for the featured author of Texas Writers Month in 2000 held in Austin, Texas by graphic designer Marc English. It is printed on heavy high quality coated stock in metalic inks: silver and bronze and laid over a duotone photograph of the rugged Big Bend country of West Texas. The poster quotes a long scene from McCarthy's BLOOD MERIDIAN with drops of bronze red blood for emphasis. This is a stunning visual and carries the impact of the original text depicting a scene of horror as the savages line up on horseback along the ridge their glass beads and painted bodies caught forever in the sun's hot glare as they anticipate the massacre that would follow. Only McCarthy could make this scene so vivid you might have to put the book down and never finish it.
