Harrisburg, Pa: B. Singerly, Staatsdrucker, 1869. Hardcover. Fair. lxii, [2], 280, 104 p.: tables; 25 cm. Dark brown cloth with black spine title: German School Report 1869. Boards have blind-stamped center emblem of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and decorative border. Remains of inscription on front free endpaper indicate the book was given to someone in Greensburg, Pa., in 1870. The appendix contains tables showing for each county, by township or borough, the number of schools; the average number of months each school was open per year (4 to 5 in the rural counties); the number of male and female students; the average monthly salary of male and female teachers; the average cost per student per month; the tax for school and building purposes; the amount received from school tax collectors and the state appropriation; school expenditures; and the balance of school debt. Entirely in German. Very scarce. In Fair Condition: lacking cloth at ends of spine; corners rubbed; front board is warped; text block detached from binding; dampstained from upper edges on over half of the leaves; lacking upper corner of front free endpaper; pencil notations on endpapers and a few other places; 4-cm. tear from upper edge of pp. 213-14, with minor loss.
